People will fork out a small fortune for the beauticians of the mechanic world to titivate or basically overhaul their entire vehicle. But are they willing to spend as much time and money on their own warrant of health?
With so many factors increasing stress levels, one of the major causes of disease; the need to keep up physical maintenance in modern life has never been more necessary.
Feeling Guilty about Self-Nurturing
Many people associate feelings of guilt with self-nurturing. New mothers and caregivers often put others first before themselves and eventually suffer the consequences with burnout or illness. The child or person in their care then loses their primary caregiver. Regular self-nurturing is a way to maintain good health so that burnout or illness does not occur. And asking for support can help to relieve the burden of guilt that can be felt in giving up time caring for another to care for oneself.
When people operate with high levels of energy; their minds are clearer, new ideas form, communication is more open with colleagues, family and friends. And people are generally just much more pleasant to be in the company of. So taking care of oneself is in no way a selfish thing because it benefits so many other people as well.
Taking the Initiative to Maintaining Health
A system health check followed by a cleanse can be the human equivalent of a car M.O.T (Ministry of Transport road reliability test). There are so many parts of the body that require maintenance and regular checkups to ensure they are healthy and stay that way. There may be plenty of people unfit and unsafe to be navigating themselves in the public arena or behind the steering wheel of a car for that matter; but it’s unlikely they will be booking themselves in for an annual body “M.O.T” with their doctor. So the initiative for self-nurturing lies with the individual. Humans, after all, only get one body to get them through a life-time.
Whether a person prefers a complete health overhaul all at once, or a little boost week to week; there are many methods of providing self-care and nurturing for oneself. Some simple health maintenance suggestions are:
- a juice detox for digestive health
- a few weeks cutting out processed foods and refined sugars
- a dental check-up
- an eye test
- an ear syringe
- a haircut
- an exfoliation and facial or spa
- a relaxing or deep tissue massage
- yoga classes and regular exercise
- a nutritional consultation
- a healing session
- a weekend retreat in nature
The benefits are not just for the individual, but for all people that interact with them. Just think of how much money is spent on car maintenance, and then try investing that into body and mind maintenance. One may not end up with a shiny new car to drive around in, but with new energy, health and vitality, at least it will be possible to run for the bus.
